Matted widescreen, in a nutshell, is when a film is shot in a 4x3 (1.33 / Fullscreen) frame with the intention of it being matted at 1.85 (wide) in the theater. When released to VHS without the mattes, you usually end up seeing things unintended by the director, such as boom mics. Any time a film says it's matted widescreen, it's a 99% probability that was the way it was intended to be seen by the director. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
