Well, I dunno if you ever bought Superfly, but I'll answer the question since no one else has.

Matted widescreen, in a nutshell, is when a film is shot in a 4x3 (1.33 / Fullscreen) frame with the intention of it being matted at 1.85 (wide) in the theater. When released to VHS without the mattes, you usually end up seeing things unintended by the director, such as boom mics.

Any time a film says it's matted widescreen, it's a 99% probability that was the way it was intended to be seen by the director.

thanks n1ghtmare. i did buy superfly and it just looks kinda chopped off at the top and maybe the bottom too. don't care tho, cause this movie and it's soundtrack, are nice!
