Dream Team Reborn

Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng were spotted at the 2012 Media Asia Presentation on March 19 during the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (Filmart). It has been announced that the dream team will co-star in Johnnie To's upcoming thriller "Blind Detective", which will mark the fifth occasion for the duo to work alongside one another, m1905.com reports.

Andy Lau is set to play a visually impaired detective in Johnnie To's latest creation; a role that will no doubt earn him more nominations at future award ceremonies. Sammi Cheng, meanwhile, will portray the blind detective's admirer.

The leading stars look forward to working together again and are having to address their extremely hectic schedules in order to finish filming as soon as possible.

"This is one of the most challenging roles of my career because the character is blind but the director isn't allowing me to wear shades", said Lau. He added, "The director says 'cut' when he thinks my eyes are moving. So we've only managed to complete one third of the movie after 3 months of shooting."

Looks like Andy Lau's acting skills will be taken to new heights with this film. Similarly with Lau Ching-Wan; Simon Yam and Anthony Wong in Mad Detective, Sparrow and Punished respectively.

Btw, any word of Motorway getting a release?

haven't heard anything more. there was a Singapore site (not Moviexclusive) listing April, but obviously that isn't happening. I'm still hoping it'll see a theatrical release before the end of June...I wish Media Asia would update their website!

3rd quarter 2012 is what I heard from Media Asia. I'd bet on a Venice/Toronto double , followed by a late Sept release in HK!

general release should be July 4th!! you can tell by the trailer that To is pulling yet another great performance from Lau, especially his lasts lines of dialogue in that trailer.

This might very well be an unrelated sequel to Mad Detective. Plus I would like to see why it failed to impress most people at Cannes, it's looking great.

Watched this a few days ago and really wanted to find out the reason for all the negative criticism it received in Cannes and by Kozo. I now see why. Don't believe the trailers(!!!) because they are truly misleading. The whole miraculous-inner-gift-despite-handicap angle was a good idea but when you want this to function in a setting consisting of goofy characters and working them around a seriously crime-driven story, that's where you'll sense so many faults with the movie. Imagine Mad Detective and a random Milkyway comedy producing a freak of a baby. I tried my best to appreciate it but the extremely zany vibe was too much for me to handle, although there was still some stuff I liked like [spoiler ALERT!!!] the whole investigation subplot of the missing girl. J. To's output in the last 10 years have been mostly a streak of classics, but seeing this makes me wonder where he'll take his style next and if it will be for the best or worst. Hopefully, not something like this again.

A HK romantic comedy revolving around grisly murders? I'm in! How this film showed at Cannes, I'll never know.
