Member akaCZ Posted August 18, 2011 Member Share Posted August 18, 2011 Hi guys I am relatively new to the site, been reading a while but just made myself an account =) What I am asking is some tips of modern MA cinema for me to watch, I feel I've seen all the good ones that keep on getting recommended. Here's a list of the ones I have seen: Ip Man 1 + 2 Legend is born, Ip man Flashpoint SPL Police story (all) Ong bak (all) The Protector Bangkok Knockout Chocolate Rush hour (all) Merantau warrior Danny the dog Once upon a time in China (all) Fatal contact Undisputed 2+3 Blood and bone The one Romeo must die Kiss of the Dragon District 13 Man from Nowhere Tai Chi master Shaolin Hero Fearless Dragon Tiger gate Black Belt Redbelt Forbidden Kingdom Legend of Chen Zhen I've probably missed loads but if you could just give me loads of titles to look up and I'll do so! I must add I like films with both good traditional kung fu like the older films (wong fei hong, shaolin etc) but I also really like proper hard action like Bangkok Knockout (even though I've seen better acting in porn movies), fatal contact, Merantau warrior)...I guess what I mean is wire work films are not really down my street so to say Thanks alot guys! Member Gaijin84 Posted August 18, 2011 Member Share Posted August 18, 2011 Welcome! Not sure if you've seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (and liked?) but Reign of Assassins is pretty good in that genre.
Member masterofoneinchpunch Posted August 18, 2011 Member Share Posted August 18, 2011 It might help if you put what you liked the best and thought was the worst with your list above. Also do you want to narrow down the years? Already understand that wuxia wire-work is not in your interest .

Member akaCZ Posted August 18, 2011 Author Member Share Posted August 18, 2011 I've seen CTHD and yeah I liked it, I'm just not really "in the mood" for those types of films atm if you knwo what I mean =) I'll have to look up reign of assassins thanks for the tip! year honestly don't matter when I think of it, I actually had modern in mind when starting the thread but when I think of it a lot of the good films I've seen have been oldish like bruce lees movies and jackie chans earlier films. I guess what I really need help finding is the hidden gems so to speak, I mean the film titles that make it to the west are quite narrowed down so to speak and I keep on thinking that there must be loads of films I'm missing out on. Just got a tip for "hard boiled" aswell so guess I'll be looking that up too =)
Member bigrogie Posted August 18, 2011 Member Share Posted August 18, 2011 From your last post I guess that you're not limited to «modern» movies. I would suggest to watch these titles: SECRET RIVALS 1 & 2 HAPKIDO SHAOLIN CHALLENGES NINJA GREEN JADE STATUETTE PEDICAB DRIVER FIST OF LEGEND COME DRINK WITH ME AVENGING EAGLE WHAT PRICE HONESTY GANG MASTER EXECUTIONERS FROM SHAOLIN FIVE DEADLY VENOMS WARRIORS TWO THE DRAGON TAMERS I think it would give you a good idea of the older stuff! So many more I could have added.
Member masterofoneinchpunch Posted August 18, 2011 Member Share Posted August 18, 2011 ... Just got a tip for "hard boiled" aswell so guess I'll be looking that up too =) You've never seen John Woo's Hard Boiled? Well then add The Killer, A Better Tomorrow I&II as well. Of course at some point you will have to get to A Bullet in the Head as well. These are not MA cinema, but more gun "heroic blooshed" genre. If you go this route you can easily get many more suggestions. Then you can get to the triad/cop genres, the Japanese Yakuza genres ... I didn't see you mention Project A, Project A2, Wheels on Meals, Dragons Forever that easily would fit in what you want to watch (technically Project A series is early 1900s, but still pretty damn awesome)
