Moderator Karlos Posted June 4, 2011 Moderator Share Posted June 4, 2011 Anyone ever seen this? I've just seen the wonderfully 80s trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZl-Imvd6m4 And found it to watch/dl here: http://veehd.com/video/3044317_Swordkill-1986-VHS-ENG-FIN-J-Larry-Carroll Looks great - any reviews? Member ShaOW!linDude Posted June 5, 2011 Member Share Posted June 5, 2011 Bro, save your time. I rented this years ago on vhs. Don't waste your computer space dl'ing it. It's not good. If you haven't seen Yuen Biao in THE ICEMAN COMETH, that's what you should find.
Moderator Karlos Posted June 5, 2011 Author Moderator Share Posted June 5, 2011 Ah, that's a shame. I was kinda looking forward to seeing it but if it stinks that bad... Thanks for the heads-up, bro!
Member mpm74 Posted June 5, 2011 Member Share Posted June 5, 2011 Yeah, I saw a little bit of it on Netflix... kinda so so... after 10 minutes, I gave up. But hey, give it a shot. You might like it.
Moderator One Armed Boxer Posted June 6, 2011 Moderator Share Posted June 6, 2011 Ha ha.....looks like a reverse version of 'G.I.Samurai / Time Slip'....only with no Sonny Chiba, and no sign of it being any good by the looks of things either, is that a boom mic lingering at the top of the screen around the 00:40 mark!? Member chanbara Posted June 6, 2011 Member Share Posted June 6, 2011 I personally love this film. I watched it again recently on Netflix and found it to be even better than I remembered. Hiroshi Fujioka gives a profound and moving performance as a samurai brought back to life in modern times in a surprisingly well written and thoughtful story (the ending is particularly great and very un-Hollywood). Fujioka is also a real-life master of kenjutsu and his swordplay is quite impressive, but don't go in expecting an action film. The supporting cast, made up of largely unknowns, is also quite good, including a cool cameo from Toshishiro Obata as the spearman in the opening prologue scene. The film also features a great soundtrack.
Member Yihetuan Posted October 26, 2022 Member Share Posted October 26, 2022 I've also always enjoyed this film. It's cheesy and obviously low budget but @chanbara gave some compelling reasons to give it a watch. It's getting a blu ray release in January from Kino Lorber with audio commentary from @Mike Leeder
