Anyone know who is this guy?

I started watching this again (to review it) and I'm trying to figure that out. I know Eagle Han played the White Crane Beggar, but I can't ID this guy either. I even looked here: http://kmdb.or.kr/eng/vod/vod_basic.asp?nation=K&p_dataid=03683&keyword=mantis#none, but I'm still stumped.

I think he may also be in Sandong Chinese Restaurant, as it appears to be very closely linked to 7 Star Grand Mantis

I'll have to contact HKMDB because Sandong Chinese Restaurant may have been actually the same film as 7-Star Grand Mantis. The film also goes by The Gay Woman of Shandong (original name) and The Woman Water-Seller of Shandong. (Of course...thats not true at all now)

Okay, I found something very interesting. Where to start?

I checked HKMDB and under the title 7-Star Grand Mantis, there is the actor's name of Jang Cheol and we get an actor who was born in 1935:

Now, I go to the Korean Movie Database, where they have the film listed under it's original title The Gay Woman of Shandong. It is revealed there is another actor named Jang Cheol who was born in 1959, which would make him 24 years old when this film came out. Could it be that this is the second Jang Cheol?

7-STAR GRAND MANTIS has the same cast as SANDONG CHINESE RESTAURANT, but I thought it was a different movie...

Well, I recently visited the film and part of 7-Star Grand Mantis involves the trio of Benny Tsui, Eagle Han, and Song Jeong-A opening a restaurant in the film. Plus, if you look at the HKMDB page on Sandong Chinese Restaurant, it's clear that they sport the same exact looks as 7-Star Grand Mantis

Especially Kwon Sung-Young being mistaken in SCR for Benny Tsui (Seo Byeong-Heon)

I have both films and 7 STAR starts out (after credits) with a pig carrying contest - SANDONG has a similar sequence with roosters... A quick run through of the films has the same cast, but I haven't found any shared footage as of yet.

Now THAT is very interesting! I just saw footage from SCR...I find that interesting they look the same as 7SGM but looks to be a different movie altogether.

Maybe it can be viewed as maybe a "sequel" (shrugs like no tomorrow)

I've always thought SANDONG was a sequel of sorts, but I couldn't say for sure...

@AlbertV I definitely understand you having a suspicion that they were the same film, but please be careful making a declarative statement like this until you've actually compared the films. I was going to check on this myself, but @ThunderScore beat me to it (thanks for the clarification T.S.).

I mean, if you hadn't seen either of them and just judged by photos, cast, year of release, and director, it would be just as easy to say "SNAKE IN THE EAGLE'S SHADOW is actually the same film as DRUNKEN MASTER." Which clearly (to most people) it is not.

So I encourage you speculating and sharing info, but make sure it is researched and proven before stating it as "fact" on the forum. Especially something that is as easy to prove or disprove as simply looking at two films to see if they are the same. As we all know, there are plenty of false stories about Asian cinema out there circulating already, and we don't want any incorrect information or rumors being started here on our forum Thanks.

I'll keep that in mind next time :D

I'm watching footage of Incredible Shaolin Thunderkick and it also has Seo Byeong-Hong (Benny Tsui) and Eagle Han, who from what I see looks a bit like his character in 7SGM with a big mole. Is this somewhat related to both the other films or its own film?

I see the original title is Water Retailer from Shantung

He is also in Incredible Shaolin Thunderkick - top notch screen fighter.

I reviewed '7 Star Grand Mantis' back in 2015, in which I briefly touch upon Kim Seon-gyeong's Shantung trilogy -

I also recently watched 'The Snake Strikes Back' with Elton Chong and Eagle Han, which interestingly also features the unique form of bloated belly kung-fu that's used in the Shantung flicks.

Bought this about three years ago, I threw my girlfriend in at the deep end with old school Kung Fu by showing her this. We had been out to the pub though, but she not suprisingly fell asleep after being speechless for the first ten or so minutes.

Man, subjecting your girlfriend to 'The Snake Strikes Back' isn't throwing her in the deep end, it's pushing her off a cliff!
