Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted May 29, 2011 Member Share Posted May 29, 2011 For '77, that end fight was as tight as it got. This movie really shows Sammo breaking out on his own, in every way. Sadly, IFM is often overshadowed by Warriors Two and Magnificent Butcher, but as a whole, I think I actually prefer IFM.

Member blue_skies Posted June 9, 2011 Member Share Posted June 9, 2011 I'm not sure if I've seen iron fisted monk but I'm sure I picked up the DVD. I will have to go see if I can find it.
Member DiP Posted June 9, 2011 Member Share Posted June 9, 2011 Good for a directorial start but Sammo made bigger and better as the years went on.

I am sort in agreement with ya...i honestly didn't love the movie when I first saw it. I had watched knockabout, prodigal son, warriors two first and preferred those. Guest Markgway
IFM isn't Sammo's best Kung Fu movie... but it acts as a good indicator of what was to follow. Better than most directorial debuts.
Member Kennedy Il Sung Posted June 10, 2011 Member Share Posted June 10, 2011 I love IFM, especially the finale I sometimes just pop it in to watch that. I like whenever Chen Sing's character at the end defeats a guy he says "Buddha be praised" or something along those lines.
Member 66 Mantis Posted June 11, 2011 Member Share Posted June 11, 2011 I always considered IFM to be a good, not great film but with an ending that rivaled almost anything Sammo has done since. Those two rape scenes were awfully uncomfortable to watch, though. I've seen plenty of that sort of thing in Japanese films, but it just seemed worse here. Maybe it's because you don't see a whole lotta that in Kung Fu movies of this vintage.
Guest Markgway
The rape scenes in TIFM are problematic because they inject comedy into them (always a bad taste no-no) and eroticise the nudity. If they were brutal, yet discreet it wouldn't be an issue.
Member popsjnr Posted October 17, 2011 Member Share Posted October 17, 2011 I always thought Iron Fisted served as a good warm up for Warriors Two, although Enter the Fat Dragon separates the two, and the finale of Iron Fisted is amazing and almost a trial run for the ending of his wing chun classic, same location etc. As for the rapes, they were a bit excessive (and less effective than the attempted rape-murder in Butcher), however I always liked dirty Fang Hak On's cum-face (showing a guy enjoying his leisure time constructively), and thought they could show it to some porn actors to teach them how to genuinely convey the pleasure of blowing their load!! Member Cognoscente Posted May 30, 2021 Member Share Posted May 30, 2021 Speaking of rapes, the March '77 issue of Golden Movie News contained a production photo of the lead-up to the first rape scene.
