Just Re watched Eight Diagram Pole Fighter and Realized this is POPS best film. I re watched all of his films lately and while I love almost all them this one to me stuck out as the most powerful. It's funny because you could argue that Pops invented the kung fu comedy and yet this film has none or any lighthearted moments.

There was most probably no lighthearted moments because of what they were going through at the time, dealing with Fu Sheng's untimely and unfortunate death.

Is the thread created to discuss 8th diagram pole fighter, or which LKL-movie we think is is best?

Pole Figher is a very good movie. I really like the seriousness, it's a good break from all the silly movies that came out at the time. That being said, the story is pretty dull. It just feels so rehashed and uninventive, and you can really tell the production had it's share of problems. However, the fights are fantastic, the pinnacle being Gordon's battle against Philip Ko, one of the best fights of all time. And seeing dozens of monks training to defang wodden wolves (of course we never get to see the real ones) using intricate choreographed movements, is so bizzare that it's ingenious.

The best LKL-movie in my opinion is Shaolin Mantis.
