Member Cesare Posted April 8, 2011 Member Share Posted April 8, 2011 I only know one - Hong Kil Dong (1986). A swordplay film (IMHO a pretty decent one) - deemed kind of a genre classic over here. I think it might be one of the most succesful north korean films to date, it was rather popular all over the Eastern Bloc. And it looks like some good soul uploaded it on Youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcOHHZWLbRY&feature=related

This movie is currently showing at the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia of all places, but I doubt there'll be too many opportunities in a lifetime to see a North Korean kung-fu movie on the big screen! - http://tix.miff.com.au/session2_miff.asp?sn=HONG+KIL+DONG&s= I posted my own review of it here as part of this years Korean Film Festival in Australia - http://koreanfilmfestivalinaustralia.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/review-hong-gil-dong-1986.html GAHPPdov2Co

Moderator One Armed Boxer Posted January 4, 2014 Moderator Share Posted January 4, 2014 If you want an actual tangible copy of the movie, I can certainly vouch for the fine work of Jamal...you'll get a DVD sleeve as well as a DVD with the movie artwork on it. I bought my copy off him, along with many other movies in the past. If you're curious about North Korean movies, he also has 'Hong Kil Dong' available - http://jamalkungfuprojects.blogspot.com.au/search?q=hong+kil+dong I reviewed the movie here - http://koreanfilmfestivalinaustralia.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/review-hong-gil-dong-1986.html
Member Yakuza954 Posted January 4, 2014 Member Share Posted January 4, 2014 They're on the expensive side, but you can order the official DVDs with subtitles here. Also includes another North Korean martial arts film, "Blood Stained Route Map".
Member HAZ Posted January 4, 2014 Member Share Posted January 4, 2014 I once emailed the North Korean government to ask them about visiting NK and going to the movies. They actually replied and said that travelers are not allowed to go to the theater unsupervised, but that they have some kind of film festival/market yearly that foreigners are welcome to attend. I wanted to buy a 35mm print from them, but they had none for sale or even to rent.
Member ShawAngela Posted January 5, 2014 Member Share Posted January 5, 2014 Did you already buy from this Korean site ? Do they accept paypal ? I sent them a message, but still haven't got any answer... Thanks for any information.
