Member mpm74 Posted March 10, 2011 Author Member Share Posted March 10, 2011 Not familiar with Kenta Fukasaku's stuff, other than BR2. But he sorta took over directing duties so that may have effected the outcome. Trailer looks decent enough though.
Member Takuma Posted March 10, 2011 Member Share Posted March 10, 2011 The guy gets his budgets with his surname... but he's been showing promise lately. Maid for You, X-Cross... good films. But then again, he's still the man behind the god awful Kozomo zamurai (In Kill), and I haven't forgiven him for what he did to Sukeban Deka... Looking forward to Black Rat, nevertheless. Here's the trailer for those who who got fucked by Media Blasters' area restrictions: http://www.nipponcinema.com/trailers/black-rat-ts-trailer

Member Takuma Posted October 24, 2011 Member Share Posted October 24, 2011 Watched this a few days ago... rather amusing little film. I'm not sure if Fukasaku is starting to get a hold of this stuff... or if he's just good at making good films by accident... probably the latter, judging by his own comments. Pretty basic storyline - so predictable, that it becomes surprising how unsurprising it is. But there's tasty little bit all around it - a supremely cute serial killer rat, a little hilarious twist to "torture porn", and quite a cool hand drawn opening credits sequence with dark fairytale atmosphere. Solid tech credits, too, despite mini budget and four day shooting schedule. The irritating-beyond-belief guy from Hana and Alice is here too, essentially playing the same damn role even - he's 33 years old for Christs sake! Those with refined taste should find something to enjoy here. Even remined me a little bit of Koji Shiraishi's awesome horror-mocumentary-comedy Shirome. Still, not quite as much fun fun as Fukasaku's previous effort, the brilliantly blockheaded Maid for You.
