Member Golden Arm Kid Posted February 12, 2011 Member Share Posted February 12, 2011 I've heard that there are some differences between the Game of Death footage we see in A Warrior's Journey Bruce Lee in G.O.D. and Game of Death: Platinum Edition (HKL DVD. I think this is supposed to be the Artport version?) Only major differences I've seen between versions I think are Kareem's eyes and during the very beginning some versions show Dan Inosanto doing the "Dance of Death" on Chieh Yuan before James Tien steps in. Can anyone clarify the differences? Thanks in advance.

GOD is in better condition than Warrior's JourneyGOD has different dialogue than Warriors JourneyGOD uses a few alternate takesGOD contains more footage of Tien vs. InosantoGOD contains better out takes Is this the kind of stuff you're looking for? Member BlurayStation3 Posted February 12, 2011 Member Share Posted February 12, 2011 1.) There is a huge difference in picture. WJ is non-anamorphic letterboxed and has not been cleaned up. BLiGoD is anamorphic and has been cleaned up. HKL is the same as BLiGoD, but is windowboxed. 2.) They have different music and dubbing. In WJ, John Little dubs Bruce's speaking parts, Ji Han Jae dubs himself, Kareem dubs himself. James Tien and Chieh Yuan are dubbed in Cantonese. It has some generic uninspiring music. In BLiGoD, Bey Logan dubs Bruce, Dan Inosanto dubs himself. James Tien and Chieh Yuan are dubbed in English. It has some cool music and sound effects, including when Ji Han Jae turns on the red light, the gusts of wind that blow throughout the pagoda levels and a remix of John Barry's Game of Death theme. 3.) They have slightly different dialogue. For example: In WJ when Dan Inosanto is doing the "dance of death" on Chieh Yuan, the narrator is still talking and the movie hasn't officially started yet. In BLiGoD it is dubbed with sound effects, battle cries and is made as part of the movie. In WJ, James Tien yells "Hai Tien! Hai Tien!" after encountering Kareem. In BLiGoD, James Tien yells "Help me! Help me!" In WJ, there is one footage that is not dubbed and has the caption "missing dialogue". In BLiGoD, it is dubbed and Bruce was saying how his bamboo is like a sword. In WJ, there is Cantonese dubbing about what Bruce is thinking and how he is going to attack, and English dubbing for Kareem. In BLiGod, there is no dubbing. In WJ after Bruce kills Kareem he yells to outside of the pagoda and they say the job is done. In BLiGoD they say the game is not over yet and the enemies are still waiting for him. 4.) They use slightly different footage. For example: In WJ Bruce cues James Tien to fight with Ji Han Jae and quickly cuts away. In BLiGoD Bruce smiles while cueing James Tien. In WJ when Kareem kicks the sandbag next to James Tien, it swings freely. In BLiGoD when Kareem kicks the sandbag, it hits James Tien in the back. In WJ Bruce throws a standard punch which knocks down Kareem. In BLiGoD Bruce does a baseball throwing-like step and throws an uppercut. In WJ Bruce goes into a pose before Kareem backs behind the staircase. In BLiGoD Bruce licks his thumb before going into the pose. In WJ Kareem's eyes are normal looking but red. In BLiGoD Kareem's eyes are normal at first, but then cuts into footage of red cat-like eyes. Generally BLiGoD uses the longer footage. It also has alternate footage throughout the documentary. I prefer BLiGoD but both are worth watching.
