Member David Rees Posted January 6, 2011 Member Share Posted January 6, 2011 For those of you who are now HD enabled there are some new interesting releases in Hong Kong. CHINESE GHOST STORY FULL THROTTLE ONG BAK TOM YUM GOONG Lets hope that they are full HD and not upscales like some previous releases, shame about no original mono on Ghost Story lets hope they dont add SFX to the mix. Looks like locked to region A but to be confirmed. Chinese Ghost Story would look great if done properly. Ong Bak has been released in America but cut version only, not sure which version this will be.
Member John Posted January 6, 2011 Member Share Posted January 6, 2011 I'd definately be interested in Ghost Story; never seen it, but I'm a Ching Siu Tung fan.
Member David Rees Posted January 6, 2011 Author Member Share Posted January 6, 2011 Chinese Ghost Story is a real classic, it has more of Tsui Hark's style although Ching Siu Tung is credited as director.
Member OldPangYau Posted January 6, 2011 Member Share Posted January 6, 2011 In regards to Ong Bak, as it seems to be released by Edko *and* has the Cat III rating, it's most likely the uncut version. The 108 min runtime (if correct) seems to enforce this as well. I remember when it first came out there were two Hong Kong versions: A Cat IIb and a Cat III. Basically the only difference was that in the finale, two shots of bone breaks were cut from the Cat IIb version. Other than this, it was the original Thai cut. Also, seeing as how they'll most likely use the original print, I'm REALLY hoping for a better HD transfer. The one released by Fox was all kinds of "bleh". Better than the DVD, but not saying much. While it didn't look like an upconvert, it was VERY soft
