Old school box office hits?

Out of curiosity, when old school kung fu movies hit Hong Kong theaters, how much money (in HK dollars) did they have to make to be considered a "hit" or a success? How much info is available on how much money old school films made at the box office? (HKMDB is hit or miss on this).

It depends on the budget, but usually a million was the sign of a good run.

It does, in theory. But for the 70s, there are not a lot of Japanese movies listed, let alone their box office numbers. But thanks anyway!

Note there are no martial arts movies in the top 5 for 1975 or 1976.

I'm really surprised to see The Big Brawl having done so well!  Was it just the post-SITES Jackie fever in full effect?  Or did the Hollywood financing allow for much more marketing/distribution?  Or was it genuinely well-received in HK?
