Member teako170 Posted November 19, 2010 Member Share Posted November 19, 2010 This could have gone in either the Classic or Modern forum actually, anyhow.... Watched FOUR REAL FRIENDS last night (very cool Jimmy Wang Yu basher!) and there's a scene in it that reminded me a lot of KILL BILL. I uploaded the two clips below. Similar scenes with powerful music in slo-mo. Did QT ever mention he was a fan of this film? 8lkVWI6WynM iCZLUc1HOZU
Guest Markgway
Tarantino probably has seen Four Real Friends and may even have subconsciously absorbed that scene. It's amazingly easy to write (or shoot) something without being accutely aware of why it's in your brain. He may have copied it intentionally of course (that's his thing; and especially so with Kill Bill). What's that music cue in the KB clip from? Member The Dragon Posted November 20, 2010 Member Share Posted November 20, 2010 ... What's that music cue in the KB clip from? Wasn't it originally created specifically for KB by The RZA?
Member Blacula Posted November 20, 2010 Member Share Posted November 20, 2010 Wasn't it originally created specifically for KB by The RZA? Almost, it's by Tomoyasu Hotei, not sure if it was specially made for the film
Member teako170 Posted November 20, 2010 Author Member Share Posted November 20, 2010 Almost, it's by Tomoyasu Hotei, not sure if it was specially made for the film Battle Without Honor or Humanity was released in 2000 and KB was shot in 2002, so I'm guessing probably not. Great tune though. I had this mp3 before the movie came out and I was hooked.
Member QueMuchita Posted November 20, 2010 Member Share Posted November 20, 2010 My guess is that Tarantino has seen the film and who knows, maybe he did copy that scene but to be honest there is many movies with a scene like that where 4-5 dudes walk in slow motion with music playing. Member Pai Mei Posted November 20, 2010 Member Share Posted November 20, 2010 Before seeing this clip of FOUR REAL FREINDS I always thought this KILL BILL scene was sort of a recreation (or sort of an hommage) of his opening sequence to Sorry, too retarded to figure out how to embed the video. Member shukocarl Posted November 20, 2010 Member Share Posted November 20, 2010 Similar scene in Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch (from 1968).
