Wonderful debut by Darren Aronofsky. Shot in black and white.

A mathematician is on the verge of discovering a pattern within the chaos that is life. He is hounding by a broker firm and a group of Jewish fanatics - all after the same discovery. He is losing his mind and the only person he can talk to is his old University teacher who gave up the search years ago.

The acting by Sean Gullette is almost oscar worthy, had it only contained more emotion. I think the enigmatic quality of his true feelings and the intermixed symbolic brain-destroying scenes is what makes it stay just under the genius radar. Although I do think it is brilliant - 4.5/5.

If you like alternative, cerebral films, then this one is definitely for you.
