Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted October 11, 2012 Member Share Posted October 11, 2012 Daniel Wu is a great actor, and has a Wushu background (though it's rarely utilized) so I don't know why he's being called out?! Will he be used proper in this movie, that's another, highly doubtful, matter.
Member DiP Posted October 11, 2012 Member Share Posted October 11, 2012 Respect to RZA for having passion for martial arts films but the trailer doesn't strike me in any way. Looks like Kill Bill, except CGI-filled. Daniel Wu's got decent acting chops but I don't see what's so unique about him either. An exception is his marvelous turn as the main villain in Overheard 2. Other than that, his films doesn't stick out to me. As for his martial arts, I've yet to see him utilize something remarkable. Nothing so far... Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted October 11, 2012 Member Share Posted October 11, 2012 Have you seen Purple Storm, One Night In Mongok, Protege? Thought he was great in all of those. Actually I like him in everything i've seen him in. Thought he was a good badguy in New Police Story too. Yes, it was theatrical, but that's what the part needed. The character was a poser, a hurt little boy who dealt with his childhood traumas through a violent powertrip. Especially liked his breakdown scene on roof. No, his ma skills have never really come to the fore, I kinda respects that he hasn't just tried to milk that, and instead focused on the dramatic acting. Though I would like to see what he's got some day.
Member DiP Posted October 11, 2012 Member Share Posted October 11, 2012 Wu's performances in those films were convincingly good but no where near as 3D as he came off in Overheard 2. In that film I saw a totally different character than seeing Wu acting the usual (more like himself). He came close in One Nite In Mongkok and Purple Storm was all Josie Ho's show. Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted October 11, 2012 Member Share Posted October 11, 2012 When I think Purple Storm, I don't think Josie Ho at all. But hey, it's all a matter of taste and perception.
Member rdenn Posted October 12, 2012 Member Share Posted October 12, 2012 daniel wu not a bad actor but as a screen fighter he is hopeless, that born wild movie was pathetic not even yuen tak could make him look good in that, , i will go and see man with the iron fist.. i mean it would be rude not to go and see it. even if the trailer gives the impression this movie sounds better than it looks. Member Jay Stone Posted October 12, 2012 Member Share Posted October 12, 2012 Weirdly, I loved "Shaolin" but everything else he's done recently has been pretty dismal. He seems to get worse with wires the older he gets. I would have thought that the Rza would have chosen a better choreographer. Unless, of course, it was more about budget constraints and availability. Woo Ping, for example, seems to have three hundred projects on his plate at any one time. I don't hate Yuen Kwei, but of all the Fortunes, he's probably my least favorite choreographer. Something about his fights, they're very choppy I guess is how I would describe it. Not smooth and fluid.
Member loempiavreter Posted October 12, 2012 Member Share Posted October 12, 2012 A better photo of Kuan Tai Chen as Gold Lion (and I think that Ka-Yan Leung aka Beardy next to him as Hyena Chief???)

Member ShaOW!linDude Posted October 15, 2012 Member Share Posted October 15, 2012 You know.....I don't know...... Some of the f/x look pretty sweet but that's all I'm getting out of it. If I can change my mindset to view it as just a fun flick rather than a MA movie, I might could watch it. But it irks me that folks are trying to sell this as a MA picture and I have yet to see anything other than a kick or two to qualify it as such.....which really doesn't qualify it as such in my book. I'll be waiting for it to hit a movie channel.

Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted October 16, 2012 Member Share Posted October 16, 2012 Every pic and snippet makes the movie look worse and worse.... usually not a good sign. Unless it's some esoteric masterpiece, who's brilliance is only revealed upon complete viewing....... Doubtful.

Member sifu iron perm Posted October 16, 2012 Member Share Posted October 16, 2012 the set scenes and characters look great! The weapon/gadgets certainly look interesting. The choreography is what worries me, and haven't seen anything that brings me full joy! I hope it does fulfil my expectations since i heard of the news 4-5 yrs ago. Member teako170 Posted October 17, 2012 Member Share Posted October 17, 2012 I'd be interested in knowing what he bought.... Wandering between the black cinema and martial-arts video aisles, RZA thumbed through titles he already owned (“Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold”) while picking up some new additions for his collection (a boxed set of action movies produced by the Shaw Brothers of Hong Kong). Before he exited with $402.94 in purchases, heavily tilted toward Asian action films, a smiling RZA said in his quiet voice, “You can’t say I’m not supporting the cause.” Quick article from the NY Times - focusing on RZA http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/21/movies/for-rza-hip-hop-was-just-a-prelude-to-kung-fu.html?hpw&_r=
Member Killer Meteor Posted October 17, 2012 Member Share Posted October 17, 2012 I'm sure many, many true members of this forum have passed this post by. It's clear you know nothing about martial arts cinema posting such crap. Russell Crowe in a martial arts movie. Let's be honest the whole sentence is completely wrong. Well, guess who just went on my ignore list...
Member popsjnr Posted October 17, 2012 Member Share Posted October 17, 2012 everything about this movie just looks wrong, hope it turns out to be a masterpiece....but judging from the trailer and those dire stills (Chen Kuan Tai looks like a pantomime Dame and how pissed off does Beardy look behind him??)...I seriously doubt it!!
