CLIP PLAYLIST

DOLPH LUNDGREN IS BACK ON FORM, TAKING NAMES AND KICKING ASS.

After a prolific but less than stellar movie career in recent years, 2010 looks set to be a golden one for Swedish action superstar Dolph Lundgren, with the release of two movies that see him returning to the kind of form not seen since the glory days of ‘Rocky IV’, ‘Masters Of The Universe’ and ‘The Punisher’.

In August, Dolph will be seen starring alongside the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin and Jason Statham in the testosterone-filled ‘The Expendables’. That same month also sees the DVD and Blu-ray release of the high-octane action-thriller, Dolph Lundgren Is The Killing Machine, Dolph’s latest movie outing and his fifth feature to date as both director and star.

To his friends, family and colleagues, Edward Genn (Lundgren) is an ordinary man, a divorced father with a steady job working for an investment company. However, to others Genn is known as Icarus, a ruthless killing machine and former US sleeper agent once based in the Soviet Empire. Determined to break away and leave his dark past behind, Genn has started over with a new identity, but he soon learns you can only escape your past for so long.

When an unexpected incident in Hong Kong results in Icarus’ cover being blown, past and present collide and the one-time assassin realizes he is now the target. Worse, the people that want him dead will stop at nothing to get to him and that means going after those he cares about most—his wife and daughter.

With his life at stake, Icarus is forced to face the demons of his past in order to protect the loved ones in his present. He must fight to save the only thing he’s ever done right in his life by uncovering those who are after him and protecting his family before it’s too late.

“Extended gunfire, explosions, and an impressive body count are the order of the day” (BeyondHollywood.com) in Dolph Lundgren Is The Killing Machine, which co-stars Stefanie von Pfetten (Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief), Samantha Ferris (Supernatural) and Bo Svenson (Inglourious Basterds; Kill Bill), and is a definite must-see for Dolph Lundgren fans and those with a taste for edgy, independent action movies.

Dolph Lundgren Is The Killing Machine (cert. 18) will be release on DVD (£15.99) and Blu-ray (£19.99) by Anchor Bay Entertainment on 16th August 2010.

I've seen half of this and it's rather good actually. Dolph, along with Van Damme seem to be the ones who are still consistently churning out good STV action movies while Seagal seems set to languish in the pit of crud that he's associated himself with (apart from of course MACHETE).

Once I've watched the whole thing I'll post a review.

I'm also hopefully going to the premiere of The Expendables on Monday, so I'll get a review of that up asap.

I heard the film was decent, I heard the camera they used is on par with a home video camera though.

1080i HDCAM SR @ 24fps. It's the standard HD cam for TV.

It's not a RED, but it's nowhere near home video.

Previous posts about Dolph's straight-to-DVD output being a cut above other action stars offerings is right on the money. Obviously, this isn't a big budget affair so some sacrifices had to be made but it's consistently entertaining and held my interest throughout, something that can't be said for the endless stream of pedestrian Seagal flicks that will doubtless one day reach critical mass and tip the world into obilivion.

Here's a link to our CULT LABS BLOG, with a raft of clips from the movie (so spoiler alert everyone!)

Not to take over your thread, but can someone give some suggestions on some of Dolph's best movies where he is the star?

Isn`t this just a repackage of `Icarus` with a different name?

Wow...it seems companies arn`t just content with changing the names of Asian movies these days!

It is, but companies need to promote the film. Lundgren's on the up thanks to The Expendables so it pays to highlight his name and sex up the title with the word 'killing'.

The film is out now in the UK, here's a blog with a brace of behind-the-scenes videos:

OK I got to finish watching this movie last night and he was good, not great. The storyline was good, but it was just missing something there. Dolph was a bad ass Russian Assassin who has to hide what he does from his now ex-wife. Until she gets caught up in the middle of everything. I was just expecting more, a decent B-movie at best. Not to give up any spoilers but it does leave off as there is going to be a sequel made.

In an interview dvdforum.nu did with Dolph in August, he had this to say about Icarus (translated from Swedish):

Q: What can we expect from your next directorial effort Icarus? Rumours have it that the producers made it difficult for you... (Dolph wanted to play the bad guy but the producers didn't let him, the script was rewritten and the film recut without his involvement)

A: Those motherfuckers messed everything up from the beginning. I shouldn't have done that film. It's not my work, it's not my cut. But the film after that! Then I'll show everything I've learned, hopefully with a bigger budget than usual!

Yeah, Dolph hates this film and it is not at all what he wanted.

I thought it was decent but not particularly noteworthy. The main problem with it is the super low budget.

I hate when producers think they know it all. That's why Isaac Florentine was pissed when he made The Shepherd with JCVD and Adkins. The version you see was the product of the producers not Florentine himself...the same as Michael Biehn with Shadowguard. The final cut was all Bey Logan with no say from Biehn.

Producers need to step the hell back and let the Directors do there job. I don't blame Dolph for liking the flim i myself felt it could've been better if the Producers let Dolph do what he wanted to do, as for The Shepherd it was alright but i suspect Florentine wasn't pleased with the final cut according to Scott Adkins they cut the hell out of his fight with JCVD towards the finale of the flim. Shadowguard well let me say from the moment i saw the trailer the moment i saw it was a piece of crap and now i know why no disrespect to Mr Bey Logan but you should'ev let Bien edited the dam flim himself he is the director i honestly don't see Bien working with Bey again let alone make an Asian flim. Expendables i saw the extended cut i liked it better the Producers were idiots messing with Sly's baby i agree with Sly the extended cut is even greater than the final cut.
