We've had so many threads on the Joseph Lai's IFD and Tomas Tang's Filmark International Ninja films and its actors, from Richard Harrison to Stuart Smith. I thought it would be a good idea to do an official "Where Are They Now" thread, with links to interviews if possible and more stuff.

Richard Harrison - the most famous of the Ninja film actors. it is said that he runs a company with his son, Gladiator Electronics.

Stuart Onslow-Smith - Australian actor who starred primarily as villains in Ninja films with some exceptions. Also appeared in Yasuaki Kurata's Bloodfight. He is currently a financial advisor in Thailand.

Mike Abbott - British-born actor in the Ninja films usually as a villain. Has been seen in City Hunter with Jackie Chan and Purple Storm as Daniel Wu's abusive stepfather.

Paulo Tocha - also known as Bruce Stallion because of his resemblance to Stallone in the 80's. Born in South Africa, Tocha was a kickboxing champion who not only appeared in the Ninja films, but played villain Bailey in Jet Li's Born to Defence and as Muay Thai expert Paco in Bloodsport. Currently runs a MMA/kickboxing gym in Los Angeles.

Bruce Baron - American-born actor who had some crazy rumors about how he was British and died in Sweden of diet products. He's still alive and kicking, these days for a Asia-wide business. Happily enjoying his job and lives in Hawaii.

Edowan Beresma - played the villain ninja in Zombie vs. Ninja, where he fought the likes of Pierre Kirby. He is doing well these days and works for in-flight magazines throughout Asia.

Nathan Chukuake - Brooklyn-born Northern Shaolin 7-Star Praying Mantis expert who starred in mostly Filmark's ninja films. Played Michel Qissi's opponent in the prologue of Bloodsport and fought Sam Hui in Dragon from Russia. Currently a special education teacher in New York.

Eric Neff (Omoade Falade) - L.A. based martial artist who played the Monkey fighter in Bloodsport but also starred in a few Ninja films, Clash of the Ninjas and Silver Dragon Ninja. Currently runs the Capoeira Angola Center in Los Angeles.

Louis Roth - New York-born actor who appeared as the villain in some of the early Ninja films. One of the most famous gweilo actors in Hong Kong cinema with roles in A Better Tomorrow II (the NY gangster who was forced to eat Chow Yun-Fat's rice) and Drunken Master II (the British consulate), Roth sadly passed away in 1994 of cancer.

Anyone has any more info on the actors from these days, post here

Interesting read Albert, very nice research.. Perhaps you could add a paragraph about Pierre Kirby (you only mention him briefly in the Edowan Beresma bit, but he deserves more)?

There's some info on him at the GNWC blog..

Great stuff

There's also Gary Carter, who appeared in HANDS OF DEATH (aka NINJA OPERATION 7 - ROYAL WARRIORS) with Richard Harrison and Mike Abbott. He had a bit more to do in another Harrison Ninja title, NINJA STRIKE FORCE (aka NINJA OPERATION 2 - WAY OF CHALLENGE). I think he's back in the U.K. now...

Grant Temple - Canadian-born actor who while on vacation in Hong Kong, got the chance to star as a ninja in some of the 80's IFD Ninja flicks for Joseph Lai. He can even be seen as a monk in Jackie Chan's Armour of God. Currently works as a teacher for special needs students in Canada.

Pierre Kirby - British-born martial artist and actor who appeared in many of the Ninja films and disappeared in the late-80's. However, his popularity has spiked and many wonder what he is up to these days.

Pierre Tremblay - HK Cinemagic

"No, Pierre Tremblay is not French! It is in Quebec. Emigrated to Hong Kong where his knowledge of Cantonese allowed him to integrate the movie business. In the '80s, he began his first career in the journalism community, including radio, where he officiated for over 20 years.

That's when Peter is hired by John Liu for "conquer" the Asian market. So in the uniform of ninja that we will find the actor, then in Godfrey Ho's films where he plays the Chief of Police. It may still glimpse Pierre Tremblay in the urban drama by Tsui Hark: Hell weapons where there is an American arms dealer.

He retired from film in a long time now and has gone back to work in radio."

Alphonse Beni - Cameroon-based actor and filmmaker who starred in French erotic films but is best known for his work in two martial arts films, CAMEROON CONNECTION and IFD's BLACK NINJA, where Xenon Entertainment credited him as "Chris Kelly". Returned to Cameroon to do more films. Interview in French

Wait, is IFD the same company that "made" Ninja Commandments?

I remember seeing that on TV about 8 years ago and it was so awful yet hilarious that I had to know who put this monster together.

I saw at least 15 of these. One and only one had a sex scene between the white actors. Any one remember this???

Could be NINJA IN ACTION...

It was NINJA IN ACTION, which was a Filmark production. Stuart Onslow-Smith and his girlfriend got it on in the movie LOL

IIRC, in the TWE (Trans World Entertainment) VHS that sequence was a bit less explicit than the Puerto Rican VHS release from Seagull's Video Productions. Whether it was edited or cropped differently, I cannot recall. I do know the TWE release was one of a handful of their Ninja titles "Not Recommended For Minors"...

Stuart Smith is the Ninja Master! I love his films. I love the IFD/Filmark Ninja films.

I have trouble believing Richard Harrison though, when he says he was only doing 1 or 2 films, and was not aware. His ninja uniforms are different all the time, as are his roles/stories. I think for some reason he just isn't proud of his Ninja films, sorta like Christopher Lee and Dracula. But Harrison is great, and his Ninja films are great, and I think he doesn't realize his fanbase based on these films. He should be proud of them. He was great in them. Ninja Master Gordon is an icon.

They just can't make movies like these anymore.

Aside from Louis Roth's passing in 1994, Bruce Baron passed away on April 12, 2013 at the age of 63 from cancer. I remember during my High Impact days, I was doing research and there was an ultimately BS claim that Baron had died in Sweden of an overdose of diet pills and Baron himself emailed me to let me know he was alive and well and we had emailed each other back and forth for a little while back in the day. He was also unhappy with his days at IFD like Harrison was and ultimately he would retire from the industry and live in Hawaii until his passing.
