Member Phantom Dreamer Posted February 27, 2015 Member Share Posted February 27, 2015 In that 2.5yr window when he took HK by storm, that man had more poon tang than North Korea has missles. Stirling Siliphant spoke about Lee when he visited HK with his newly wed wife in early '73. Lee told him they were set for the afternoon with "two of the most beautiful Chinese women I'd ever seen!" Stirling backed out mentioning his wife and met up with Lee a day later. "Boy what you missed!", was Lee's remark to him after spending the afternoon with the women by himself. Doesn't get any clearer than that. :l Thanks for this and I hope that day is included in the new biopic.

Member dionbrother Posted May 29, 2021 Member Share Posted May 29, 2021 In the decade since this thread began, I've realized BRUCE LEE AND I is likely the truest of Bruce Lee biopics. Not 100% true but closer than the others.

Member Killer Meteor Posted May 30, 2021 Member Share Posted May 30, 2021 I feel the first one, BRUCE LEE A DRAGON STORY is the closest. It manages to depict Bruce, Linda, Betty, Raymond Chow, Run Run Shaw, Mr and Mrs Lo Wei, even original Big Boss director Wu Chia-hsiung, in the most unpleasant and frank manner possible! Kareem Abdul-Jabbar comes out of it ok, though...

I don't remember to have seen this image in the movie, and it reminds me of Nancy Yen in the Black Panther, though none of the actors wore this kind of clothes in it !

Member DrNgor Posted August 26, 2021 Member Share Posted August 26, 2021 Tonight I watched Super Infra Man with Danny Lee. One of the supporting roles went to Huang Kin Lung, a year before he adopted the Bruce Le moniker. Interesting enough, his name in the film was Xiao Lung (i.e. Little Dragon) and you could already see the seeds of his imitating Bruce Lee in his fights. It makes me wonder if the Shaws had considered casting him in Bruce Lee, His Last Days & Nights instead of Danny Lee at any point.

The year before he was a hot-head, nunchaku wielding waiter in The Tea House and you could already see who he was aping. He was also rocking the BL style shades in Gossip Street that year. Guess he just lost in the mix of Shaw bit players.

It's a pity that it didn't happen because starring in a Shaw movie would have increased his market value.

I was wondering about that last night. Had he done it (and had it been successful), would Shaw Brothers gotten more into the business of Brucesploitation? Would Bruce Le have ended up working with Lau Kar-Leung or Chang Cheh at some point? Edited August 26, 2021 by DrNgor

Member dionbrother Posted August 28, 2022 Member Share Posted August 28, 2022 Wild guess: I think Bruce Le's Burmese heritage might have kept him from being a leading man at Shaw Brothers.
Member Cognoscente Posted August 28, 2022 Member Share Posted August 28, 2022 Shaw Brothers were awfully slow to greenlight this movie. They should have filmed the Betty biopic in 1974 at the latest. The below pages are from 1975 issues of Shaw's Southern Screen. August October November December

Their only co-production with Japan I'm aware of are Princess Yang Kuei Fei and Madame White Snake, but they were both filmed before 1975, if I'm not mistaken.
