Moderator Karlos Posted September 16, 2010 Author Moderator Share Posted September 16, 2010 I hope there's more story and character stuff in the extended cut, as opposed to more action.

Member OpiumKungFuCracker Posted May 11, 2011 Member Share Posted May 11, 2011 Find Out if You’re a Target in the Biggest U.S. BitTorrent Lawsuit Ever http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/05/bittorrent-lawsuit-checker More than 23,000 people will soon be notified by their internet service providers that their subscriber information is being turned over to lawyers suing over the 2010 Sylvester Stallone flick The Expendables. As we first reported Monday, the case is the largest BitTorrent file-sharing lawsuit in U.S. history. We just updated our IP Detective tool with the 23,322 IP addresses targeted between Feb. 5 and April 22 in the mass lawsuit filed by the Washington-based U.S. Copyright Group on behalf of Nu Image. All told, more than 140,000 BitTorrent downloaders are being targeted in dozens of lawsuits across the country, many of them for downloading B-grade movies and porn. Film companies pay snoops to troll BitTorrent sites, dip into active torrents and capture the IP addresses of the peers who are downloading and uploading pieces of the files. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a great resource on what to do if you’re a target. As before, our widget also will attempt to check if you’re one of the nearly 6,000 targets in the controversial Nude Nuns with Big Guns case, or the OpenMind Solutions lawsuit going after nearly 3,000 alleged porn downloaders. Moderator Karlos Posted December 7, 2011 Author Moderator Share Posted December 7, 2011 Finally saw this last night and, whilst I’m not going to review the film per se (hey, we’ve all seen it, right!), I just thought I’d share a few thoughts on the changes that were contained within. I’m not sure exactly when it was decided to put out a DC of this but after the mixed critical reactions it seemed that Sly was eager to get the film re-cut and back out there. Long story short, the new extended version – some ten minutes longer or so, and with around 70 small changes here and there – works immeasurably better, giving the plot and characters much more room to breathe and resulting in a film that is tonally more consistent and generally more satisifying. What stands out straight away is that the DC is much more serious, with a lot of the one-liners removed - perhaps made most evident with the removal of the “getting a text” gag at the beginning of the film. Overall, there seems to markedly less humor on display and, I think, it works to the films advantage. The one exception is the team meeting scene which plays out better now thanks to a little more dialogue here and there. Interestingly, the re-cut has made the relationships between the principals – especially, the one between Stallone and Statham’s characters – much more edgy, bordering on antagonistic. Fights-wise, I noticed a fair bit more footage during the Gary Daniels/Jet Li fight, which was welcome, although the camera problems that were there before are still there. Ditto the Dolph/Jet fight. There’s also a lot more Dolph in general. Always a good thing! If you’re a fan of the film then this is a must-have. The changes here have been for the better and I have a feeling it will soon be seen as the definitive version of the film, and it’ll be interesting to seeing what the critical reaction to it is. If you’re not a fan, this version probably won’t change your mind, although it may still be worth a look. Other things I noticed: • The BD sleeve says there’s a new intro from Sly, when in fact there’s two: a thirty second one straight after the trailers have played. Interestingly, it’s from the set of part 2, and shows Sly stood outside what appears to be a bar in a village. • I can also confirm that Sly is now rockin’ a 70s porn star ‘tache. Nice. • On the subtitles, Arnie’s character, Trent Mauser, is referred to as “Trent Mouse.” Awesome. • On a possible Expendables 3, Sly says words to the effect of, “I’ll make it if it’s shot in a diner”, and goes on to say he doesn’t want to make BIG action films anymore, but smaller budget ones. I’m sure he may reconsider once the box office returns for part 2 come in but this admission did come as quite a surprise. • He also stated he would like to direct a few more films before he retires. Member gorhama Posted December 7, 2011 Member Share Posted December 7, 2011 Thanks for the information Karlos!! I've been waiting for the DC of this movie ever since it was first announced. I was excited about everything you wrote....but then you had me when you wrote this simple line. "There’s also a lot more Dolph in general. Always a good thing!" I was hooked!!!!! Lol nor me and I don't expect that to change very soon. Far too many mediocre or worse comments on this forum have held me back and with whatever limited funds I have I'd rather try and get some older kung fu gem. The Expendables is going nowhere except down in price.

Member wigsplitta Posted December 9, 2011 Member Share Posted December 9, 2011 Thanks for the heads up, hadn't heard that a DC was available. I really enjoyed the original cut, but there were definite flaws, especially in some of the fight scenes. I look forward to seeing the extra footage. A I look forward even more to part 2! Administrator KUNG FU BOB Posted December 9, 2011 Administrator Share Posted December 9, 2011 In the version I created in my mind, Sonny Chiba interrupts Dolph and Jet's fight, beats them both, and joins the team. At the end he rips Eric Roberts face off and makes him eat it while he smiles evily. Maybe I shouldn't eat Butter Almond Toffee Clusters before bed? Except from some editing (Li vs Lundgren fight) and effects polish, this is (unlike RAMBO's DC which really was re-cut after the facts) Sly's original "director's cut" as written, initially edited and shown at test screenings. Member blue_skies Posted January 31, 2012 Member Share Posted January 31, 2012 Note to Sly: Please remove as many of the CGI shots as you can (especially CGI blood). Thx. having actually seen the movie now I completely agree. I've never been a fan of CGI blood, it just looks crap doesn't look effective at all. Old school movies looks so much better with practical blood and gore. As for the movie itself I can't say I cared for it. The action was mediocre at best. Story was again nothing special. No great memorable characters. No memorable fight sequences. For me this movie was just blah, not terrible but not even remotely good
Member laagi Posted May 15, 2022 Member Share Posted May 15, 2022 I'm only 12 years late to the party... What can you do!? I finally watched this for the first time today. It has a lot to make any action fan's heart beat faster. A cast of old school heroes, cheesy dialogue, memorable one liners and of course plenty of explosions. Special mention to the finale which feels like a non stop action rampage with exploding limbs, a variety of different kills, endless amount of cannon fodder and the icing on the cake some good hand to hand combat. Now unfortunately my biggest issue with the movie is the way the action was captured. It's at least IMHO pretty terrible. Most of it takes place in the dark, is utterly shaky and has just way too many cuts. I caught myself more than once wondering what the hell is happening on screen right now. Also I really don't understand the many close ups or the general closing in on the action. Overall it's an okay watch with a great cast and insane finale. If only the action was caught differently this would've been so much better. Next up for me Expendables 2...
