Guest Ishin ookami
Okay, I have a vacation coming up, in which I'm going to be travelling cross country, via greyhound. and I would like some really good, action packed hong kong kung fu films to pass the time. It need not be necessarily high brow, recently picked up future-cop X by wong jing based on the trailer and am considering Dragon Squad. Ive just over dosed on shaw bros. period films and would like something with soid action pieces with a more modern feel. Of course, if there is a good recent kung fu film out there with a respectable story, I won't shoot it down either.

Member phoenix_darshan Posted September 20, 2010 Member Share Posted September 20, 2010 thanks everybody for their recommendations, keep them coming. some of them were spot on others were a good try. I do prefer movies set against backdrop of ancient China or Asia to be general! Not so much into the Police/detective modern story lines..
Member ShaOW!linDude Posted September 20, 2010 Member Share Posted September 20, 2010 The Prodigal Son ----- Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung together. This movie delves into wing chun. It's a masterpiece. Knockabout ----- again Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung together. This one delves into monkey style kung fu. Close Encounters of a Spooky Kind ----- Sammo Hung. This movie is wild. Project A ------- Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Biao. Decent story/great fights. Spiritual Kung Fu ------ one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies. Drunken Master ------- again Jackie Chan and WOW! I mean....just....WOW! Fearless Hyena ------- again Jackie Chan and another favorite of mine. Shaolin Temple ------ Jet Li. This movie packs in a lot of stuff and there's some great drunken style in this. Shaolin Challenges Ninja ------ Gordon Liu. Great duels pitting Chinese MA against Japanese MA. These aren't fights to the death but duels to determine which style is best. Drunken Tai Chi ------ a young Donnie Yen in a Yuen Woo Ping film. The Buddhist Fist ------ another YWP film with some crazy choreography. These are more old school stuff. Might be more what you're looking for. Member ShaOW!linDude Posted September 20, 2010 Member Share Posted September 20, 2010 Sorry. Misread your post. These may be what you're trying to get away from for a while. If so then never mind. I'll try to think of something else. Hmmmmmm........ Project A & A2 ------ still think these JC movies may be what you're considering. Miracles ------ another JC movie with a 20's gangster feel to it. Pedicab Driver ----- Sammo Hung. Gets a little slow in the middle but it really kicks in at the end(pardon the pun). The Iceman Comes(or Cometh[i can't remember now]) ---- Yuen Biao and set in both ancient and modern times. Maybe that will help.
