The Raid 2: Berandal (2014)

That's not a fair comparison for Yen. Yen is a martial arts actor who acts, fights, choreographs and recently in Special ID produces. Gareth is a director, producer, editor, screenwriter who films some amazing martial arts actors. If the Raid fails, it's Gareth's fault and no one else. (He's good at all those things so the Raid failing won't be an issue, IMO).

Yen's movies are not entirely within his control, as he as explained in several recent interviews.

I should point out that my comments were in direct response to OKFC's post regarding 'Special ID', not Yen's overall body of work. 'Special ID' for me was a movie which combined the lethal combination of, (a) an incompetent director in the form of Clarence Fok, (B) Yen's penchant for letting his ego run rampant in the fight scenes which results in him being invincible, and © a cringe inducing script.

When Yen is under a good director, like Wilson Yip or Peter Chan, he's great....when he's not, well, you get 'Special ID'. I'd love to see him under the direction of Gareth Evans, perhaps for 'The Raid 3'?

Agree with everything except for point b. Aside from the restaurant fight where Yen was untouched, he got beat up by Ken Lo and Andy On (pretty bad). It's a move very different from the likes of Flash Point and few other movies he has action directed where he mostly floors everyone with no problem. He's slowly improving in this area lately and I can see him share the spotlight with his co-players in his next upcoming movies.

I've watched that trailer about 100 times now, I hope to god this gets a release in theaters where I live like the Raid did. I'll be the first in line. This looks to be epic, hype be damned!

although I've seen some sites report that March 28 will be a wide release, and I hope that will be the case, but this Twitch article does state they're going the same route as part 1, which means start limited and expand in the following weeks. I know part 1 opened in NY, LA, Chicago and a couple other cities on day 1, and by 3 weeks later, it was playing all the bigger cities.

Smart strategy and again this is a foreign film where as the typical middle America will probably not show any interest in seeing it anyways except for nerds like us. Start small and the coming weeks later, expand to the other metropolis cities like Phoenix and so forth.

Well, reviews should start cropping up within hours... although I expect the bulk to appear tomorrow. The film's supposed to premiere around 9:45 (I think), but I can't remember which time zone Utah is in

In that case, the film should be playing now... of course, I'll probably fall asleep before the first "140 character reviews" trickle in

Can't wait until March....trailers send a thrill up my leg, Chris Matthews style.

Also, I can definitely see Hammer Girl becoming a popular cosplay outfit on the 'con scene in the near future. So simple, yet devastating!

What is perhaps the most anticipated film of 2014, at least for most of us at Twitch, made its world premiere this evening at the Sundance Film Festival and suffice to say, the sequel does not disappoint. Clocking in at two-and-one-half hours, The Raid 2 greatly expands on the world created by Gareth Evans in the first film The Raid: Redemption. With the expansion of the world comes so much more action, so much more imagination, and so so SO much more violence. This is not a movie for the faint of heart. In fact, the film actually had to be paused at one point and the lights brought up so one man who had lost consciousness could be removed (he eventually walked out under his own power).

We'll have a full review for you very soon but as the credits roll, we want to let you know that boy are you in for a treat.

Aside from the rampant violence, the most notable part of the film is the depth of story line at work. There is a very complex plot that involves three crime syndicates, the government, and multiple levels of double-crossing and subterfuge. I'd be lying if I said I have it totally figured out after one viewing, but it never feels confusing to a level of distraction.

But of course the real star is the martial arts and my god is there a lot on display. Anyone who was a fan of the head smashes and knee kicks in the first film will be oh so pleased. Get ready... this film is about to blow your mind. Now I really want to go watch it again.

I just hope this won't be cut down to get an R-rating. release the uncut version!! at least on DVD!

To deal with THE RAID 2, the MPAA is gonna need something heavier than NC-17. And probably some adult diapers.

If it's not handled by the Wiendsterd company, It's save to say that this will get the intended cut it was shown at Sundance, probably not 100% but I'll take 99.7% if that makes any sense because once again it is catered to the American audiences and some will get toned down a little, in my opinion.
