Member The Dragon Posted June 10, 2010 Member Share Posted June 10, 2010 You're doing pretty good with your selections so far... Now it's time for: Lo Lieh: Executioners From Shaolin Clan of The White Lotus The 36TH Chamber of Shaolin Then more Ti Lung: Magic Sword Sentimental Swordsman The Pirate Then some swingy-armed old skool action: King Boxer Vengeance The Casino The Thunderbolt Fist You should be happy with any of these titles! Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted June 10, 2010 Member Share Posted June 10, 2010 Another must see is What Price Honesty (sorry if this was mentioned already). I'm sure Dragon and many other people would agree with that choice. It is only recommended if you like dark, badass movies, my favorite kind of movie. Far better choice than Executioners (which did nothing for me, go figure).
Member Tosh Posted June 10, 2010 Member Share Posted June 10, 2010 I will look over that list carefully and see what I need to save for later. Seems I did some decent choices on my own and picking from what you guys picked out overall, sounds like a lot of Ti Lung which is always good in my book, I don't like that he got older in his movies ha.. yeah I know that is a bit silly. Just loved how he was in the Delightful Forest.. Tiger Killer is a must own for you then, Ti Lung plays the same character - Wu Song, the movie takes place before Delightful Forest (which I haven't seen yet:sad:), one of Shaw's masterpieces in it's own right. Member Jackie Fhan Posted June 11, 2010 Author Member Share Posted June 11, 2010 The Blood Brothers The Boxer From Shantung Executioners From Shaolin The Assassin (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) Tiger Killer Dirty Ho (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) What Price Honesty (Hong Kong Version) Well guys, this is what I ordered. May be a while before they all get here but that is fine. My sisters baby was born at 11:30 earlier today, Emma Hill. She is over 8 pounds and seems to be doing fine. So I had a good day overall. Member vengeanceofhumanlanterns Posted June 11, 2010 Member Share Posted June 11, 2010 Just watched The Invincible Fist last night. Hadn't seen it for a while. Great flick. All star cast. Also this story was the first version of Killer Constable's storyline.

Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted June 11, 2010 Member Share Posted June 11, 2010 The Hong Kong Legends version of Legend of a Fighter is the one to get. If you can't find that version or if it's too pricey then I recommend getting it in this pack- http://www.amazon.com/Martial-Arts-Essentials-Vol-Best/dp/B0031545W0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1276282706&sr=8-1 Another option is trading for it. I have copy of it if you want to trade. Not high quality but decent enough. Send me a PM if you want it.
Member Daigoro Posted June 11, 2010 Member Share Posted June 11, 2010 Am i the only one who thought Legend of a Fighter sucked? Maybe i need to watch it again, i did not like it the first time. Never understood the hype, then again i may have been preoccupied with other things.

Wow, another person that made it through that review. You must have high level reading skills. I think I was on a mix of meth and crack when I did that review. BTW what is your opinion on the Essentials version in case people are wondering about it? It sucks that it is full screen, but I think the pic quality is very good. Member Jackie Fhan Posted June 12, 2010 Author Member Share Posted June 12, 2010 Well not all of them were in stock, but... they usually get them in when I order.. so hope they go through. I honestly don't know if I have anything to trade. I usually just keep all the movies I have.. unless you want that black dynamite movie on blu ray.. I really just couldn't get into it lol. I'll check out the links you provided also, haven't done so yet. Five Billion Dollar Legacy The Bastard The Bells Of Death The Big Brother Cheng Delinquent The Finger Of Doom Friends Fugtive The Hell Has No Boundary Moods of Love Seeding Of A Ghost Sexy Killer The Shaolin Martial Arts Taste Of Cold Steel The Twelve Gold Medallions The Should probably add all these to my to get list eh? Where did you order from? Seeding of a Ghost I am pretty sure is a domestic release, not sure about the rest. Martial Arts Essentials How many of these are there? and are all of them worth getting? And the one I am getting Legend for, is it not edited and remastered or anything? I figure a lot of these movies won't be remastered anyways if I dig deep enough for non shaws etc
Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted June 12, 2010 Member Share Posted June 12, 2010 Here’s a quick review I did of the MA Essentials volume 7- http://kungfucinema.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10582&highlight=martial+arts+volume Some of the volumes are a mixed bag, where you get a few good movies and a few decent-bad movies. In volumes 1, 3 and 7, pretty much all of the movies are good, IMO of course. A lot of people don’t like Videoasia, and that is certainly understandable. The owner of the company is a hated man, and a lot of their early releases are really horrible. But they’ve gotten better with recent releases. If you are just starting to build your kf movie collection and want to get a lot of movies for a cheap price, these Essentials volumes are recommended. Also here’s reviews I did of volumes 1 and 3- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016MJ73C/ref=s9_simh_gw_p74_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0W5PCSRW32VAXSES6E9J&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846 - http://www.amazon.com/Martial-Arts-Essentials-Films-Yuen/dp/B000VSDN32/ref=pd_bxgy_d_text_c
Member bratty Posted June 12, 2010 Member Share Posted June 12, 2010 Jack, I got all of those from DDD House. Well, that's where I ordered them from. Probably be a week or two before they make it to my PO box. Morgoth , You have me very tempted to check out a few of those Essentials boxes. I won't touch them until I can get a real cracker deal though. No $15-20 each, no thank you. I looked at them at the DD sale this summer but no dice.. no discount. I assume Video Asia just steals the prints they use from other DVD companies, ie Ground Zero. So if I see a movie in an Essentials box that I have seem floating around on Ground Zero or some other grey market company it's fair to assume VA took their copy from said disc, right ? you never know with kung fu , though
Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted June 12, 2010 Member Share Posted June 12, 2010 Videoasia is Groundzero. I think they take most of the prints from the UK's Vengeance/SoulBlade/Eastern Heroes... DVD releases. The owners of these companies are friends so I don't know if it's stealing, but I don't know the whole story there. A lot of movies in these packs are from VHS sources and while sometimes those aren't good quality, I appreciate the releases, because this way I don't have to track down an expensive VHS. I've also seen some nice looking German prints from Videoasia like Shaolin Death Squads in the Protect Ya Neck 4-pack and Four Real Friends in the MA Essenials volume 7. Those are probably stolen, but I don't know for sure.
Member kungfusamurai Posted June 13, 2010 Member Share Posted June 13, 2010 I've noticed that while Video Asia might put out DVDs of titles that are the same as the GZ releases, it's only in name only. Sometimes you get a different version, sometimes better, sometimes worse. KFS

It sucks that it is full screen, but I think the pic quality is very good. lol I always enjoyed all your guys reviews, I think brother fang is the last one doing them on amazon... But as far as the essentials version of Legend of the Fighter goes.. I found it be watchable.. it's definitely not a version I'd recommend as the "definitive version" nor do I think a fan of the movie would be satisfied with this version... I found it to have VHS quality, which is not surprising for the essential packs.. they are all pretty hit or miss quality wise..Being Full Screen is crappy, and the English only track is what it is.. It's definitely a great movie, and worth watching, and if the essential version is your only means of seeing go for it, because it's not totally dreadful.. but you can do better! Yeah I agree VHS quality, but I thought it was good pic quality. I'm guessing you have like a widescreen expensive type TV? Maybe my small low quality makes TV makes it look better to me than it is:tongue: I LOVE the English track, but I don't think the movie is meant to be seen that way with that much swearing.
