Fernandez and Borys Kit John McClane’s string of bad luck may not yet be over. “Hitman” screenwriter Skip Woods is in negotiations with Fox to take a crack at a new “Die Hard” script. The New York cop known for consistently being in the wrong place at the right time has already survived four run-ins with terrorists, traitors and psychotic loose cannons of one stripe or another. In his last outing, “Live Free or Die Hard,” written by Mark Bomback and directed by Len Wiseman in 2007, McClane battled Web terrorists to $378 million in worldwide grosses — 20 years after first pitching Hans Gruber out a broken window at Fox towers. So the studio justifiably sees another installment as a strong bet. There’s no word yet on the new project’s story line, but former Fox exec Alex Young (“Unstoppable”) is producing. The CAA-repped Woods has already co-written several tentpole projects for Fox, including “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and the forthcoming TV adaptation “The A-Team.” He also wrote the original screenplay for “Swordfish.” McClane himself, the CAA-repped Bruce Willis, has several projects moving toward release — Sylvester’s Stallone’s “The Expendables” and the Summit actioner “Red” — and then a late-summer production start on the Lionsgate video game adaptation “Kane & Lynch.” After that, he’s free again to dig out the stubble, filthy T-shirt and beleaguered wisecracks. Seriously......
Member mpm74 Posted May 6, 2010 Member Share Posted May 6, 2010 Die Hard: Classic. Set new standards. May just be the best action film ever made. Die Hard 2: Not bad. Not as good as the first, but no bad. Fun. At least kept the feel. Die Hard 3: Solid. Gutsy. Loses its juice towards the end though. Live Free or Die Hard: No comment. Len whatever his name is should stick to vampire flicks. Get that PG-13 bullshit out of here. I want a another Die Hard just to make up for the last one. Gimme a break. There is an unrated version ya know, and it adds plenty of F-bombs for those in need.

Okay, my bad for blaming the PG-13 for it being a bad movie. There's a lot of Rated PG-13 movies that I thought were hard-hitting and hardcore enough (Casino Royale). But Live Free doesn't even feel like a Die Hard movie. The grit is gone. Sure, he does things in Part 1, 2 and 3 that are just as impossible, but things he does in LIVE FREE is straight up Transformers 2 shit. He just doesn't feel like McClane. It's like he's way to confident, like a James Bond superhero type guy. More fun than 2 or 3? Gotta disagree with you there. BY THE WAY, what's are some of the non-spoiler differences between the R-rated and PG-13 versions of Live Free or Die Hard? I'm curious now. Member massa_yoda Posted May 7, 2010 Member Share Posted May 7, 2010 BY THE WAY, what's are some of the non-spoiler differences between the R-rated and PG-13 versions of Live Free or Die Hard? I'm curious now. Well other than the F-bombs put back in, there are some different edits in the R-rated version. Some of these are better edits and feel smoother, more natural. I honestly don't remember how much more violent it is compared to the theatrical cut, i'd have to re-check this. Yeah it was goofy, but it wasn't the incoherent mess Transformers 2 was, it was much simpler. More like Transporter 2. I thought the over-the-top feel was great. And i liked the banter between Willis and Long. And Willis' trash talking was funny IMO. To me, this was brainless fun that worked. I already have the subtitle for this one: Die Hard 5: Cross my Heart and Hope to Die Hard.
Member daisho2004 Posted May 7, 2010 Member Share Posted May 7, 2010 Leave Die Hard Dead & Buried! I hated almost all the rest after the 1st. movie. They were just boring!
Member mpm74 Posted May 7, 2010 Member Share Posted May 7, 2010 I'll give it another shot, in its R-rated format. I just hope they get someone other than Len Wiseman. I'm just not a fan. The cgi car flipping onto Justin and Bruce was just...come on? Don't get me wrong, i do like the dialogue exchange between the two... I think John McTiernan ( director of part 1 and 3 ) is still is prison.... I'd like to see him direct another. Seems like Predator, Red October and the Die Hards are the only good things he has done. That's a good name for part 5. =)
Guest Markgway
Die Hard is possibly the greatest action movie ever made. Die Hard 2 is an obvious step down - but still a solidly entertaining action pic. ...With a Vengeance is a slight step up again and lots of fun but nowhere near the original. Live Free... was a real surprise for me. I saw the PG-13 version at the cinema and thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't hardcore like the previous films but it was very entertaining popcorn fodder. The Unrated version (which I have on DVD) doesn't change the film that much. If you didn't like it before you're opinion won't change on the basis of added swearing. The inclusion of multiple 'fucks' sounds more natural and largely fixes the dubbing issues in the PG-13 cut but the added CGI blood is of no value whatsoever. If Fox could manage a fifth part on a par with four - and just go out with a bloody R-rating - then I'll be first in the queue.
Member mpm74 Posted May 7, 2010 Member Share Posted May 7, 2010 Thanks for the further explanation. Like I said, I'll have to check it out. I guess the lesson is: they don't make action movies like they used to.

Member Cognoscente Posted May 2, 2021 Member Share Posted May 2, 2021 On Weibo, Wong Jing contrasted this movie with the first one by saying that the first movie could be used as a screenwriter's textbook whereas this movie is bland from beginning to end!
Member DarthKato Posted May 24, 2021 Member Share Posted May 24, 2021 The first three Die Hard movies are classics in my opinion(Especially the first movie). As far as I'm concerned, the rest don't exist.
