Slinky - nice to meet another Elton Chong fan... just to say Godfrey Ho had nothing to do with making these films! He distributed them outside South Korea and gave himself the directorial credit! The original directors (Kim Jung-Yong, Kim Si-Hyeon etc) are geniuses!

I wish the originals could make it out of Korea. I asked a relative to look around when he was in south korea to see if there were flea markets or places that had some old martial arts DVDs. He couldn't really find anything there, and it was Seoul. Do they care about their old movies there?

I think I hurt the guy's feelings because I don't care for Born Invincible. It's not like we were dating or anything! :D

Have no fear, he'll be back. There's still that little thing about raising funds for the widescreen Shaolin vs Lama.

... I am a fan of "Brucesploitation" - Nothing against Bruce Lee, but in some ways I enjoy those films more than the actual BL titles...

I'm noticing something very peculiar about this forum. Whenever I talk about how good Classic Kung Fu Movies are, I get a lot of negative replies by certain posters being condescending and even putting down movies like Born Invincible, which are considered classics by the real fans. Something isn't right, yet I've experienced a similar problem in music forums; people who seemingly have no passion about the subject will come along to chat about off-topic issues or use the forum as a general trolling ground. I know Kung Fu Movies are a very specialised form of entertainment, and that this is the best place to discuss them, but how many members who visit this forum are genuine Kung Fu fans? Perhaps you mainly watch modern films, but pop in here to have a vent? I know a way to find out... if all you've seen is a handful of Kung Fu films then there's certainly no valid reason to spend your time here. However, if you've made it your business to seek out at least the classics of the genre then you deserve to be here. This doesn't include members who sign up and make but a single post for a film ID then disappear.

Have you watched ALL 10 of these classic movies? Yes or no?

1) Born Invincible-own

2) Super Ninjas-own

3) Enter The Dragonown

4) 7 Grandmastersown

5) Invincible Armourown

6) Snake In The Eagle's Shadowown

7) Way Of The Dragonown

8) The Last Fist Of Fury / Real Bruce Leeown

9) The Secret Rivalsown

10) Shaolin Vs. Lamaown

It's like your Television, if you don't like what your watching turn the channel . You empower them by writing a post like this... Ignore them and they will go away!!! True Kung Fu enthusiast are the ones who keep coming back and seek knowledge from this forum. My kids have seen all these movies as well. There's a new age of enthusiasm out there for this Genre. We should feel good about that!!! Your always going to have some who want to spoil it for others.. Don't feed into it, then maybe they'll go away...

My 2 1/2 cents:tongue:

The Koreans are nuts about film. In the late 80s the market was opened up to more US films which provoked some militant directors and screenwriters to plant live snakes and tear gas in films showing American films! As far as old Korean B-movies I am not so sure, it seems the public at large are consumed by the Korean wave and European / Middle-Eastern art house scenes - and why not. I am sure there must be some that still appreciate these films, I'll have to explore that further soon!

the only reason real bruce lee is on there is because only a real hardcore fan would sit through that film. a casual viewer would for sure turn it off lol. in other words trick question

Falkor/Mantis2k has been this way for a long time. He dismisses answers that don't sound like something he'd write, and then he throws a fit if you're not praising a movie like Born Invincible. If you read his first post for this thread, you'll notice the condescending tone

Falkor: I'm noticing something very peculiar about this forum. Because many of us don't praise falkor's greatness for his appreciation of Born Invincible, we are dismissed as being trolls or 'off-topic' and not genuine kung fu fans.

Personally I love the Bruce Lee films, including Enter The Dragon, although I think that film could have been so much better had Robert Clouse not been in charge for the filming of the fight scenes. If he had let the HK guys film it their way, they would look so much better and get more props. For example, he closes in too tight on Bruce, so it's like watching a pan&scan, but in a widescreen format. But it's not the appreciation of Bruce Lee films that has led to our headaches with falkor. It's his tone that is off-putting.

Anyway, if you like the way he treats other people who don't agree with his opinion, you can have him. But don't say you weren't warned! :)

kungfusamurai is pretty much on target, here. Someone else told me (for the most part) falkor KNOWS he's being provocative and tends to be "dramatic"! As it goes, I have not seen all these films, and I won't lose sleep worrying about not measuring up to somebody's opinionated list! Thank goodness Roger Ebert's more forgiving about things like this than falkor!:nerd: Whatever way ANY of us wound up on these forums--and that we have decided to stay for the long haul--what counts is what WE feel in our hearts and minds for these movies we ALL like! There's nothing wrong with INDIVIDUALS having opinions; that includes (*SIGH*) YOU, falkor! Respect our points of view, and we'll respect <ahttp://www.shaolinchamber36.com/kungfufandom/uploads/emoticons/default_monkey/khi7m.gif' alt=':khi7m:'> yours!

I would say movies like Incredible kung fu mission, eagles claw, rebellious reign, leg fighters, crystal fist, eagles fist are more worth seeing than several falkor has in his classic list.

Fist Of Boss !

I LOVE eagles claw, rebellious reign & leg fighters too ! DEAD COOL !!!!!!!!! Although the title of this tread is " Have you watched..." it all comes down to individual choices, views & understanding ( or lack of understanding  ) !

I honestly would have problems putting together "MY OWN TOP 10 FAVORITTE LIST " or " MY OWN PERSONAL TOP 10 CLASSICS LIST" ( because it is so much good stuff ) so how can I expect everyone to agree with me ?

Being female may make my view a bit different too , but I doubt very seriously I have a lower level of intuitive ( shapes :wink::kiss:) understanding of the movies WE ALL LOVE ! Rather the opposite I would assume ( !) ...( Now that should help to keep the fire burning.. ;)

Don't let the negative comments get you down. I personally consider "Enter the Dragon" a Kung Fu Classic whether its commercial or not. It's Bruce Lee for (GOD SAKES) If it wasn't for Bruce alot of people wouldn't know about "Invincible Armour" or alot of the other classic Kung Fu Films we all enjoy and love. So keep your head up theres others who would consider your list although I would have mention "36th Chamber of Shaolin" and "The Hot , the ,Cool and the Vicious.

Hey it would be cool to get your knowledge of kung fu movies on my site: www.kungfu-movie-madness.com . You can post your own web page discussing your favorite movies as well as place a pic on the page. Others can comment on your page but on in a constructive way.

KFMM is a cool site were you can get a little more creative than most sites discussing something your passionate about. So anyone interested check it out.

There are a couple of IFD Ninja titles with Pierre Kirby that used footage from Elton Chong movies... NINJA OF THE MAGNIFICENCE and ZOMBIE VS NINJA aka ZODIAC AMERICA - THE SUPER MASTER and ZOMBIE RIVALS...

...I like the Elton Chong titles with Eagle Han as the baddie...

hey,

Dragon Against Vampire is seemingly untampered with by IFD (meaning they might've cut it a bit but no new ninja footage) and is a great exploitation kung-fu vampire piece with above mentioned players. :)

On falkor's list, there is "Enter the Dragon", which is considered by many to be an ESSENTIAL martial arts movie, AND WE ALL KNOW WHY, so Brother Fang won't restate what is [nearly] common knowledge!:nerd: After THIS movie, how can other martial arts movies be measured as essential, too? EVERYBODY has their own list of classic movies; what other martial arts movies do all of you think are "essential"? If you are even of the opinion that "EtD" is NOT "essential", please chime in with that, too! Maybe we can come up with a Top Ten list that has more variety to it than falkor's list!

Well, his Top 10 should have included some classics like Prodigal Son and Five Fingers of Death/King Boxer. I think his measure of a TRUE kung fu fan is buying the crap along with the good stuff. If that's the case, then consider me Grandmaster 8th Dan of kung fu, because I've also bought a ton of crappy kung fu! :) The real treat is finding the good ones among the junk. But that goes with any genre of film saturated with B flicks, whether it's kung fu, horror, sci-fi, comedy, action, etc...

I've watched all these movies BUT, The Last Fist Of Fury, great movies on the list for sure but I'd say I'm more of a Shaw fan.

I think there's room on this forum for fans of ALL the MA movies, oldschool or modern, that why we have sections, nothing to say a modern MA fan can't start digging the old stuff and visaversa. Open your mind and the world expandes, this shit reminds me of hardcore metal fans that think all other music sucks:neutral:

I only started this topic to find out about you. You really surprise me, as I feel you are the single worst member of this forum. I don't know why you are the way you are, but it's beyond my understanding. You appear to be a fan of Kung Fu films, yet are always so against them. I would have a better chance of finding out the theory of everything than trying to understand you. There's no need for this topic to continue... my theory has been proven wrong. Even real fans can end up putting down the genre. You've bothered watching all those films, but don't even like Born Invincible!? That's really pissed me off... I'm done with this forum. Good-bye!

Nearly a month on, he's been good to his word!

I personally think the title classic gets banded around way too much. Its a dope list dont get me wrong but some just fall short of classic in my opinion. Some have classic moments, but the films as a whole just fall a bit short.

Born Invincible will always be a film in high regard but i cant call it a classic. Classic laugh though!

Shoalin vs Lama, love it to bits but just dont think i can call it classic! To this day i quote the famous "who said that!" line, when i first heard that line i spat my drink out all over my sega megadrive!

And man, surely Enter the Dragon HAS to be a classic!

No 5 venoms though? No drunken master?

Shout out to 7 grandmasters, mutherfuckin classic!

If this was a stranded on a desert island type thing, and I had a choice between 5DV, ETD and DM, or just SvL, I’m taking SvL.
