Castaway on the Moon (2009)

I completely over looked this film. While it played in theaters in South Korea, it must not have long. It has been making the film festival circuit in several cities as of late. It’s unfortunate, but I think the DVD release is already out of print.

When a Korean business man can’t take anymore of his mundane life. He attempts suicide by jumping off a bridge into the Han River. Only to awaken several hours later, washed ashore on an island in the middle of the river. Discovering he’s a castaway, he tries various methods to get rescued. Only to accept his fate of isolation from the outside world and live on the island.

In an apartment building, a young woman soon takes notice of him living on the island. She is also similarly living in isolation from the world, as a shut in. Afraid of the outside world and contact with people, she slowly over comes her fears to make contact with the castaway.
